John Conley was born in Madison, Wisconsin and has lived in New York, Seattle, Vancouver, and Minneapolis, as well as Germany, England and Morocco.
After diverse studies in music, theater, history, political science and literature, he moved to Paris, France to work in multimedia production. He later studied photography at Paris Photographic Institute (Spéos) and spent time working as an assistant to several well-known fashion photographers. His editorial work hovers between portrait and fashion, with a strong theatrical or cinematic influence. Frequently working with young actors, he creates emotionally charged series insipred by cultural icons. Clients and coloborators for advertising, press and corporate communications include Orange Telecom, Disneyland Paris, NASA, Les Echos, France Televisions, So Foot, 3M, Henkel, Yves Rocher, the French Ministry of Finance and others. John continues to live in Paris, working both on location and in his studio near Montmartre. He also teaches studio and technical photography at Paris Photographic Institute. |
